   "My father gave me a set of colored ink pens that inspired me to channel energy into a chromatic series of fepic flowers. These will we be basic mixed media comprised of pencil, ink, and watercolor. I often start these with an loose stream of consciousness style water color usually around a central point. After the watercolor has dried, a freehand flower will take form first in pencil before ink. I have been playing with two styles of fepic flower; the Original style that has pointed pedals  & the Version Two Style that has round pedals."

     "This flower started organically meaning free hand with pencil. After the central flower had a basic shape, the energetic accents of the circle and triangle felt balanced in descending triplets. I often illustrated polarity/gender/duality through line and curve. The triangle represents the line, linear, male, waking aspect while the circle embodies the curve, round, female, astral aspect. This another effort of mine to stay simple, allowing the elements of the composition the space to express energy."

     "The theme of the numbers expressed as polygons or starts entered my life in late 2013 and has become a mainstay of my own Art therapy as well as compositions like this. This pieces is driven by the concept of the circle being divided by the numbers one through eight. The math for the different angles of the polygons and stars climbs along with the scale of the circle being divided. After the seven pointed star, I choose to express eight as a fepic flower to illustrated the potential to bloom when there is a firm understanding of number and geometry."

(V.Nov.28) Flower w/ Weaves

"I allowed this flower to flow in pencil, developing its motion through the subtle asymmetrical differences of the pedals. I incorporated an extra weave more than normal on this flower (look were the 45 degree pedals meet in the center) and it inspired me to revisit the Celtic style knots that occupied me for hours during boring high school classes. The last thing to be added were the lines that vanish to the central point creating extra depth and motion."

     "Precision and simplicity are the main themes of this expression. I drew circular guides in pencil of the flower of life geometry to lay a foundation for a balanced and aligned flower. I used the outer edges of the guides not used in the composition to create the energetic movements encircling the flower. This piece reminds me that less can be more; simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."

(V.Nov.5) Fepic Flower

  "This piece taught me valuable lessons in perception. I started this piece freehand with pencil and allowed the energy to take me away resulting in a powerful original style flower. I continued refining the line in pencil before rendering it in ink. Up until that point, I enjoyed the piece yet it didn't strike me and I had that nagging itch that it needed something more. I stepped away from the piece for many months unsure about what direction to go. During some wonderful drawing sessions in Virginia in the fall of 2017, I revisited this piece and found some sharpening of the pedals and reining of the line completely changed how I perceived the composition. Once those simple shifts in the energy were made, I was inspired to add the spiraling lines that stipple out from the center. Once composed, I reflected on the lack of optimism I displayed when uncertain but the joy when the simple move was made and inspiration returned to the composition balance."

     "I inadvertently discovered a new approach by building several layers and loosely filling in the flower in watercolor before rendering in more detail in pencil and ink. This resulted in a very curvy and round flower with a bubbly energy that has a different essence than most of my flowers. This piece is one of my favorite flowers to have come through me."

     "A road sign of my return to creating fine art with intent and focus. This piece began as a loose pencil drawing and as I developed it in ink, I realized I was constricting and trying to be very precise. Rather than making broad strokes to counter that feeling, I allowed it to define the composition, creating a tension and texture in the edges of the flower and bring the tips of the pedals to sharp points. I experimented with several wash techniques without getting too adventurous with mixing colors."
